The Glass Beach

For years the residents of Fort Bragg dumped their garbage onto this beach in Northern California. Known as "The Dumps", they discarded household waste, appliances, and even old cars. In 1967 it was closed, and the owner, Union Lumber, tried to do its best to clean up the mess. Large items were removed, but the glass was left behind. Over the years, the ocean washed over the beach and created a blanket of smooth glass stones. It is now part of MacKerricker State Park, and ironically, it is now against the law to remove any of the glass.
