Symbiotic Salamanders
A recent study uncovered surprising facts about the relationship between Spotted Salamander eggs and algae. It is a breakthrough discovery because it is the first time ever such symbioses has been found in any vertebrate. The algae provides oxygen to the developing embryos while metabolic waste products from the embryos fertilize the algae.
