Lightning is one of the most, and oldest observed natural phenomena on earth. Besides thunderstorms, lightning is seen during intense forest fires, volcanic eruptions, heavy snowstorms, and in large hurricanes. Right now there are about 1800 thunderstorms occurring on earth. It is estimated that 100 lightning flashes happen during each second somewhere around the globe, with a total of 8 million lightning flashes every day.
