The Minaret of Jam

In a remote area of Afghanistan stands a 213 foot high ancient religious skyscraper that is the second biggest of it kind in the world. Built in the 1190's by the Ghorid Empire, it has incredibly intricate and ornate glazed tile ornamentation that contains calligraphy and verses. The inscriptions are very lengthy, and they stress what Judaism, Christianity and Islam have in common, rather than their differences. Few people outside of Afghanistan have seen this beautiful monument because of its isolated location.
