The Fibonacci Sequence


We all notice patterns in nature...some seem random, but others are much more obviously sequential. Fibonacci was a mathematician who published a book in 1202 in which he reports calculations of patterns in nature. From the number of procreating rabbits to patterns in flowers, a mathematical pattern exists. Based on a series of numbers, each new number being the sum of the previous two numbers (0,1,1,2,3,5,8,13,21,34,55,89, etc.), these numerical patterns occur everywhere in nature. The sunflower above has 21 spirals with 13 opposing spirals, which are both Fibonacci Sequence numbers.
