Pigeons may not be everyone's favorite, but not many people know how intelligent they really are. In recent experiments, pigeons showed the ability to count, order items in ascending order, and learn certain math rules. Their performance in the testing was on even par with monkeys. Some pigeons have become rescue mission heroes because of their acute eyesight. The trained pigeons can peck at a keyboard when they see yellow life vests floating in the water to signal helicopters to close in on the survivors at sea.
