The Haro Wine Battle

Every year in Haro, Spain, a wine battle or "Batalla de Vino" is held. It starts with a five mile walk to the small chapel of San Felices. After a short mass is performed, the battle begins. People wearing all white clothes pour buckets of wine on each other. Also used are bags, water guns and balloons all filled with red wine. As long as no injuries occur, they can use any weapon of choice. The peaceful battle celebration lasts for several hours, and over 10,000 gallons of red wine are used during the event.
