The Green Bank Telescope

Located in West Virginia, this telescope sits in the middle of the United States National Radio Quiet Zone, an area of limited or banned radio transmissions which aids in the full operating potential of the telescope. Taking 11 years to construct, and completed in 2002, it has a massive steerable dish that is 328 feet across. The telescope has made several noted discoveries including the hydrogen gas based Ophiuchus Superbubble which is 23,000 light years away from earth.
