Rare Ribbon Seal

A Seattle resident got a big surprise recently when an unusual sea creature showed up on her dock. Ribbon Seals spend the majority of their lives swimming in the open ocean in the frigid waters off Alaska and Russia. Rarely do they bask on dry land except to molt or give birth. This healthy male was found lounging much further south of where they usually habitat. This is only the second time a Ribbon Seal has shown up this far south since 1962 in Morro Bay, California.
