Eaglehawk Neck

The Isthmus connecting the Tasman Peninsula to Tasmania is called Eaglehawk Neck. It is covered in a pattern of rare rectangle saltwater pools. Know as "tessellated pavement", these pools are only found in a few spots on Earth. Extremely rare, this occurs near sea coasts where the flat rock has eroded and broken into flat pool depressions, and the surrounding rock builds up to form a series of borders around them. They are named after their resemblance to Roman mosaic floors which are also referred to as tessellated pavement.
