Splendid China

A few miles from Disney World in Florida is a deteriorating failed attempt by China to transform thousands of years of their culture into a theme park. Splendid China opened in 1993, with more than 60 miniature replicas of China's most famous landmarks spreading over 75 acres. It included a four story Leshan Buddha, a block-long replica of the Great Wall of China, and various noteworthy temples. But with no rides, roller coasters, or Mickey Mouses, it couldn't compete with Disney World. Ten years later, the park auctioned off moveable replicas, and all the permanent displays were left to decay in the hot Florida sun.
