The Eastern Cougar has just been declared extinct by the Fish and Wildlife Service. This beautiful cat is also known as a catamount or a puma. The Eastern Cougar had a range of 21 states, but none exist there now. But there is hope...scientists recently did a genetic study, and may have wrongly classified the cat as a subspecies of the Western Cougar. If that is the case, they could be reintroduced to the 21 eastern states.
