The Red Eyed Tree Frog
Found in the rain forests of Costa Rica, the Red Eyed Tree Frog has a form of protection called "startle coloration". Being a nocturnal amphibian, the frog is usually resting or asleep by day. If disturbed, the frog's eyes open, revealing an extremely bright color red that startles and scares away any predators. The big red eyes staring at you is interpreted as an enemy, and all the frog needs is a moment or two to quickly hop away.
