Cheltenham Badlands

The Cheltenham Badlands are a series of bare windswept red hills in southern Ontario, Canada. The area was a fertile farmland in the 1930's, but overgrazing and poor farming resulted in the creation of this now barren landscape. The dirt and vegetation eventually wore away, leaving beautiful exposed red shale.
The reddish colors of the shale are caused by iron oxide deposits.
