Colomares Castle
In the Spanish town of Benalmadena sits a unique monument built to honor the explorer Christopher Columbus. Built by Dr. Esteban Martin, a physician who has no formal architectural background, combined Byzantine, Roman, Gothic, and Mudejar styles. It took him and two local brick layers seven years to build, from 1987 to 1994. At 16,000 square feet, it is the largest monument dedicated to Christopher Columbus in existence.
