El Castillo
El Castillo is one of the most spectacular Mayan temples that are found at the site of Chichen Itza in the Yucatan state of Mexico. The design of this "step pyramid" has special astronomical significance in that each pyramid face has a stairway with 91 steps. Together with the shared step at the top, they all add up to 365, or the number of days in the year. Because of the severe angle of the steps, a woman fell to her death in 2006, and since then, the public is not allowed to climb on El Castillo.
