While exploring the shores around St. Josephs, Michigan last week, photographer Joshua Nowicki stumbled on some strange formations. This phenomenon happens when the wind whips into frozen sand. Dozens of one foot-tall sand towers are formed rising out of the beach. The similar thing happens when a river erodes a canyon.
