Deadly Beautiful Islands

Off the coast of San Francisco are the Farallon Islands. It is a beautiful Natural Wildlife Refuge that is home to whales, seals, sharks, and many species of sea birds. But few people know that from 1946 to 1970, the area was used as a nuclear waste dump. The exact risk to the environment is not known, but it has been decided that leaving the waste where it is, is safer than trying to salvage it. There are 47,500 55-gallon drums full of hazardous waste in the surrounding waters.
