Melissani Lake sits inside a cenote, or a cave, which has lost a good portion of the roof above. Also called "Cave of the Nymphs", at midday, when the sun is high overhead, the entire cave and lake lights up a surreal blue. The clarity of the water with the light makes the impression of objects floating above the lake's surface.
